What neighbors say

Customer reviews and neighbor recommendations, all posted publicly on Nextdoor. Names are shortened, spelling tidied and phone numbers removed; the words are theirs.

Wilbert transformed our home exterior and exceeded my expectations. Wilbert did an expert job painting our house, painting the walkway, adding beautiful stone tile, painting our door, crafting a screen door and changing our mailbox. He charged a very reasonable price, is very reliable and communicative, and I couldn’t be happier. Our house has so much more curb appeal now!

How it works

Simple on purpose. One person to call, one crew that shows up.

  1. Call, text or send the form

Reach Wilbert directly at (650) 474-9096, or send the form. Tell him what you need and where, and add a photo if you have one. You hear back the same day. You do not need every detail figured out before you call.

  2. Free estimate at your home

Wilbert comes to your home, measures, looks at what is really going on (rot, slope, old paint, access), talks through options and materials, and gives you a price. No ballpark over the phone, no obligation.

  3. Clear price, real start date

You get a written price that covers labor, materials and cleanup, and a start date that fits your schedule. If something unexpected turns up once the work starts, you hear about it before it costs you anything.

  4. Done right and cleaned up

A small crew does the work, hauls the debris, and walks the finished job with you before leaving. The job is not done until you have looked it over. Most clients call back for the next project.

A San Mateo neighbor, not a call center

Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave for home services, 2024 and 2025

Voted by neighbors on the Peninsula two years running, and up for it again in 2026. That comes from showing up when we say we will and doing the job right.

  • Wilbert is on every job

WNC Home Improvement is owned and run by Wilbert Navarrete. He gives the estimate, does the work with a small crew, and answers his own phone. You talk to the person holding the brush.

  • Quality work at a fair price

A small crew and low overhead mean rates larger companies cannot match, without cutting corners on prep, materials or finish. You get a written number after a site visit, not a guess over the phone.

  • Responsive and reliable

Calls and texts get answered the same day, estimates happen within days, and the crew shows up when it said it would. Neighbors have had a repair done the morning after they called.

Work that fits Peninsula houses

Most homes from Millbrae to Palo Alto are 1950s and 60s ranch houses on small lots: original redwood fences that lean after a wet winter, stucco that cracks, decks bleached by the long dry season, and hillside lots in Belmont, San Carlos and Emerald Hills that need retaining walls to hold the slope. Posts set deep for clay soil, dry rot cut back to sound wood, and stain or paint chosen for sun exposure are the difference between a job that lasts and one you redo in three years.

Questions people ask us

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Call or text (650) 474-9096 or send the estimate form at the top of this page. Wilbert comes out, looks at the job and gives you a price. There is no charge and no obligation.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in San Mateo and work the Peninsula from Millbrae and Burlingame down through Foster City, Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City and Menlo Park to Palo Alto. If you are nearby but not on the list, ask.

How soon can you start?

Small repairs can often be done within a few days. Painting, drywall, fence and deck jobs are usually scheduled within a week or two, depending on the season. Tell us if it is urgent and we will do what we can.

Do you take small jobs?

Yes. Patching drywall, hanging a door, fixing a gate, replacing a section of fence, grab bars, caulking, mounting a TV. Many clients start with something small and call back for the bigger projects.

What are you best at?

Painting and drywall are the specialty, inside and out. Fences, gates, decks and retaining walls are most of the outdoor work. We also do flooring, tile, siding, gutters and sump pumps.

How do you price a job?

You get a flat price after we see the job, with labor and materials spelled out. No surprise add-ons. If something unexpected comes up once the work starts, we talk before it costs you anything.

Can I see references?

Yes. Wilbert has been voted Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave for home services two years in a row and has references from all over San Mateo. Ask and we will connect you with past clients near you.

Who buys the materials?

Either way works. We can pick up paint, lumber, flooring or fixtures and include them in the price, or install what you have already bought.

Do you clean up when the job is done?

Always. Demolition, debris and old materials are hauled away, and we walk through the finished work with you before we leave.

Do you install holiday lights?

Yes, every November and December: roofline and tree lights, plus takedown after New Year. Booking a month ahead gets a better rate.

Should I repair my fence or replace it?

A few broken boards or one leaning post is a repair, and a fast one. If most of the posts have rotted at the ground or more than a third of the boards are gone, a new fence costs less over time than patching the old one. Wilbert tells you which it is when he looks at it, and prices both if it is close.

Wood or vinyl for a new fence?

Redwood is the classic Peninsula look, costs less up front, and lasts 15 to 20 years with a stain every few years. Vinyl costs more to install but never needs paint or stain and does not rot. Both come with a gate to match. If you are not sure, tell Wilbert how long you plan to stay in the house.

Ready to get started?

One call, one crew, no runaround. Call or text Wilbert, or send the form, and you will hear back today.
